NAIL ART TUTORIAL: CITYSCAPE
Last week we asked our Facebook readers to vote on what tutorial they would like to see next – city skyline won (by one vote!). We loved hearing what you guys would like to see & plan on doing this again in the future, so stay tuned for more chances to contribute to PYP. We’ve been wanting to try a skyline nail for a long, long time & were really excited this won. We have seen some others in the past but what to put our own spin on it.
Step 1: After applying a base coat, paint nails with The Balm – Pink or Swim. The Balm cosmetics has recently starting popping up are local drug stores & we were so excited to get some polishes to sample, especially such bright colors! Like most neons, this color dried with almost a matte like quality but is a great vibrant pink with a peachy undertone, not needing any white base and just 2 coats.
Step 2: Using the ombre method (shown here & here) with The Balm A Fuchsia Too Many (ha!) create a nice vibrant background for are dark city skyline. We have soo many bottles of colors that look similar to A Fuchsia Too Many – guess we’re suckers for extremely vibrant purples.
Step 3: With OPI – Black Onyx start painting your buildings – vary their size and shape on each nail. It is best to start with the outline of the cityscape and fill in the bases afterwards. Once this is done, you can add some pointed/slated rooftops for some variation.
Step 4: Lastly, using a white polish and your smallest nail art brush, paint windows on some buildings – again, choosing ones at random. This part is a little on the difficult side, if you feel more comfortable a dotting tool would work just as nicely. Seal in your design from a coat of Seche Vite to complete your look.
We love how these turned out! Cityscape nail art can be done again and again with different sunset/sunrise colours and different citylines – New York, Toronto, San Francisco, Chicago, etc! Let us know what you think of our cityscape nails & what you would like to see for our next tutorial. Make sure to follow The Balm cosmetics on Twitter & Facebookto see what other great colors they have. The Balm nail polish is available at your local drug store or directly from theBalm.com for $10.00/bottle USD. Happy Monday everyone!
