NAIL ART TUTORIAL: SPACE ODYSSEY
We recently received the new Essie Metallic collection (!) & we could not wait to play around with the beautiful shades(stay tuned for the collection swatches later this week). Today’s tutorial is a great example of getting a little carried away – so many brights and a plethora of polka dots, it has a Space/Neon/Dizzy feel.
Step 1: After applying a base coat, paint nails with 2 coats of Essie – No Place Like Chrome, a creamy-texture silver shade = instant fav. We barely needed 2 coats for full opacity.
Step 2: Using Essence – Lime Up! beginning at the tips, create an ombre design into No Place Like Chrome. We use a makeup sponge dipped into polish and sponged on the nail – see a more tutorials here, here, & here.
Step 3: Using a dotting tool begin at the base of the nail creating a chevron pattern. Alternate dotting tool sizes & colours continue the chevron pattern all the way to the tip of the nail. We used colours – Color Club – Lavendarling, China Glaze – Flip Flop Fantasy, China Glaze – Happy Go Lucky, China Glaze – White on White & China Glaze – Sky High Top. Once you have finished your base chevron pattern, go back over the design to add tiny dots within your polka dots. Seal in your design with Seche Vite top coat.
Sometimes our favourite nail art designs are the ones that weren’t planned. Playing around with your favourite shades and tools is the best way to create a design all of your own. Love the Chrome! Any idea where I could get it? I looked on the essie website, but it’s a little hard to tell.
The Chrome is called ‘No Place Like Chrome’ and will be available in July!
YAY!! Thanks for telling me!
Reblogged this on Dr. Empress Jodi.
I’m sorry but this is the first tut, I don’t like…. looks off to me. When you said Space Odyssey, I was expecting stars, or something other than dots. I love this site and your tuts, so I felt you had to know, this one wasn’t all that. Nothing bad….just I don’t know….not what I expected when I read the title.
I am really loving these!!!!
lovin’ this…
