NAIL ART TUTORIAL: BOURJOIS HOUNDSTOOTH
We love houndstooth print – clothes, shoes, and especially nails. We wanted to try houndstooth nails for quite some time, but to be honest the design looks so complicated we shied away.
We were recently introduced to Bourjois So Laque Ultra Shine polish & thought it was a perfect design to try with some of their new shades. We have been big fans of Boujois’ Volume Glamour mascara for a few years, so it’s no surprise we also loved the polish.
Almost all shades were 1-coaters, easy to apply & crazy high shine. The formula has twice the vinyl & is packed with reflecting resin. We can’t remember the last time we wore plain black polish, but the Noir de Chine was so creamy and shiny we sported it for almost a week (rarity of us). We were able to see a sneak-peek at some upcoming shades available from Bourjois in the new year & they are definitely taking things to the next level. Parisian chic trendy!
Step 1: After applying a base coat, paint nails with 2 coats of Boujois – Beige Glamour. We love this name because everyone always associates beige = boring. but this dusty rose beige is anything but and a great colour for our houndstooth design.
Step 2: Using a striper brush & Bourjois – Noir de Chine, paint 2 vertical lines on each nail. Try not to make the lines too close together, you won’t have room for the design. Sidenote: ours are a little on the thin side/far apart.
Step 3: Take your original colour, Beige Glamour, and paint squares over the 2 black lines. This will leave your nails looking like there are 2 rows of black squares running vertically.
Step 4: Using a black striper again, paint 2 thin diagonal lines from the top left & bottom right corners of the black squares. Add two tiny isosceles triangles on the opposite side of the triangle. Seal in your design with a top coat!
This design does look a little daunting, but it is much easier than we expected. Yes it was time consuming. Yes we swore a couple times making those tiny lines. But we really like how they turned out! Would you try a houndstooth design?
Boujois So Laque Ultra Shine Nail Polish retails for $10 & is sold exclusively at Shopper’s Drug Mart (Canada).

[...] Step 3: Pull off the nail tape in a quick motion creating straight & even lines. Take a nail striper brush & outline the triangle shape with Back Room. Continue using Back Room to create a houndstooth pattern on the rest of the bright red background. Full tutorial here. [...]
