My Dream Home Improvements

Since buying and moving into my own home a couple of years back, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the improvements that I’d like to carry out to make it that little bit more comfortable, and ensure that my personality shines through.

Sometimes though, planning can seem a little overwhelming. You need the vision, the budgeting skills, and a decent level of organisation to make sure that stuff gets done. For these reasons, I haven’t rushed into anything just yet.

I’ve got a pretty comprehensive list now though that covers exactly what I want to tackle. These are the home improvements that I’m currently dreaming of…

New windows

Okay, so new windows might not seem like the most exciting thing that you could think of. I’m all about practicality though, and I know that new windows would improve the energy efficiency of my home, keep me warm during the colder months, and improve the curb appeal of the property.

As such, I see this improvement as being a real investment, particularly if I decide to move in a couple of years. I’ll be using a reputable supplier like Three Counties Windows.

Wooden flooring

I’ve got gorgeous thick pile carpets throughout the downstairs of my house. They’re gorgeous, but they also happen to be cream. As lovely as they look, they’re really not a practical option, and I always find myself spending a ton of time hoovering and looking for products to brighten them up!

I love the look of wooden flooring, and I know that they’d be so much more practical. To warm the place up and make sure that it still looks homely, I’ll add some statement rugs.

Upcycling my kitchen cupboards

How many times have you thought about getting stuck into a DIY project, only to repeatedly put it off because you’re convinced that you just don’t have the time? I’ve been there, many times! Since I moved in, I’ve dreamed of upcycling my kitchen cupboards with some chalk paint, but I haven’t quite managed to get round to it.

And so, I’m making this a must-do on my list for the latter part of 2019! There are so many amazing tutorials on YouTube that demonstrate what a difference you can make armed with just a paintbrush and a good dose of creativity!

Now that I’m really clear on the changes that are most important to me, I’m working on putting together a budget and making a realistic timeline. I won’t be able to make all of these improvements overnight, but by the end of the year, I hope to have made some really great progress! I can’t wait to see what the place looks like.

When you moved into your first home, did you make it your mission to make some improvements? How did you decide what you wanted to focus on first? Leave a comment below and let me know – I’d love to hear about your experiences, and any tips or advice that you’d like to share!
