On a daily basis, we’re told to ‘treat ourselves’. It’s a message that we’re bombarded with from Instagram influencers, from the media, and even from our friends. And don’t get me wrong, it’s something that I can totally get behind. I love a little bit of luxury and pampering as much as the next girl.
The thing is though, it’s a sentiment that can sometimes be a little problematic, and it doesn’t always serve us in the longer term. Too often, treating yourself means spending money that you don’t have, and putting yourself in a difficult situation in the future. It also means that we neglect important everyday self care activities such as ear wax removal.
It doesn’t have to be this way through. There are things you can do to enjoy a little self care that don’t cost a fortune, but still have the same benefits. These are some ideas that you can try…
Shop your own wardrobe
Shopping for a new outfit can be a great way to treat yourself. But you don’t have to rush out to your nearest Topshop to give your look a bit of an overhaul. In fact, you don’t even have to leave your house!
Take a look through your wardrobe and dig out those items that you’ve never worn before. We all have them, and you’ve probably forgotten that they even exist! Next, give your new outfit a day out. You could wear it to work, or to visit a friend.
Create a spa day in your own home
I love a spa day, but my bank account doesn’t. By the time you’ve paid for access to a facility and maybe a few treatments, you can easily find yourself a few hundred pounds worse off. Instead, create your own spa day at home.
Take a look through your bathroom cabinets, and find any products that you’ve been keeping for a special occasion. If you don’t have any, then you can spend just a few pounds at the supermarket on a face mask. Light a candle, pour yourself a glass of wine, and relax whilst listening to your favourite music.
Start a project that will give you a brighter future
Sometimes, treating yourself can be about sitting back and doing nothing at all. It can also be the complete opposite though. It can be about diving into a project that lights you up, and that could transform into something truly magical.
Maybe you want to start a blog and share an important message with the world. Maybe you want to learn Spanish online. Maybe you want to build a business from your kitchen table, and sell your crafty creation to people all around the world. For inspiration, check out this post about starting an Etsy business. Consider what your dreams are, and how you can take action to bring them into reality. It might just prove to be the best thing that you ever do!
Treating yourself is important, and it can really enriched your life. It doesn’t always look exactly like you expect it to though, and going against the grain could help you to live your very best life.
Will you be trying any of these ideas? If so, do come back and let me know how they work out for you!
